Metaphysical Arts Santa Cruz Notes: A Blog Introduction . . .
I was raised Catholic by a Protestant Mom (at the direction of my non-church-going Catholic father . . . a little “complicated,” but basically it was up to “the woman” to do the child-raising dirty work) . . .The church I attended as a child was a Medieval chapel, awe-inspiring – architecturally beautiful. When not trying to stifle giggles in church (because I was a kid and everything inspired mirth and the stakes were high because it was a crime to laugh in church) I tried to make heads or tails of what the priest was getting at in the sermons, but never really “got” a coherent message from week to week – not sure if this was due to my immaturity or serious lack of inspirational content . . .
I also had weekly religious instruction, I grew tired of my questions being answered with “It’s a mystery.” The questions about meaning, about timelines (what happened in the eons before Jesus walked the Earth and how did this relate to Biblical teachings, for instance), were simply ignored.
By my teen years, I had outgrown the Church doctrine and was in search of answers to my questions. I stared with Alan Watts, Zen Buddhism, Fritz Perls, and the Luscher Color Test. No one else I knew was interested in such inquiry – it was a little lonely not having anyone to discuss such important issues with. I had given up on my parents as intellectual guides when I attempted to discuss Summerhill with them after I gobbled it up at age 14 (well, I can’t really fault them because I was using the dinner table conversation to further my self-serving beliefs that the U.S. school system is crap . . . a sentiment that has only grown stronger over the years. I even began my doctoral dissertation on that subject, but that’s a story for another blog). They must have thought I was a really weird kid with such unconventional, even outlandish ideas . . .
Over the years I studied many religions and spiritual systems . . . some in a cursory way, and some in some depth . . . Finally, technology has put me in touch with others on a similar path of inquiry . . .
I started this metaphysically oriented blog separate from my Feng Shui blog, because, while I am certified in Feng Shui, my personal interests and belief system are informed by many other metaphysical ideas, which I hope to touch upon in this blog.
