Gigabyte Aorus 16X review: gaming's fingerprints are all over this laptop

Big, heavy, and with some puzzling design decisions in its keyboard, the 16X is a potent gaming machine that’s a good all-rounder for creatives.

Our Verdict

Yes, it’s another gaming laptop, but it could be one of the last of its kind before the onslaught of AI-focused Snapdragon notebooks begins. The Gigabyte Aorus 16X packs some decent specs, and thanks to the simple measure of stuffing more battery into its chassis than many comparable laptops, it manages a very respectable battery life too. It may be big, heavy and hot, but the performance isn’t bad at all. It exists in a very competitive segment of the market, however, and you’ll need to be sure it’s the one for you before you buy it.

The Gigabyte Aorus 16X is a powerful, though large and heavy, gaming laptop that, with its bright 16-inch screen, Thunderbolt connection and full-sized HDMI 2.1 port, is exactly the sort of thing that will appeal to creative users too. While it may have been designed with gaming in mind - something signified by the rainbow trapped behind the keyboard and the screen’s 165Hz maximum refresh rate - the powerful components and fast SSD means it acquits itself well when asked to edit video or flip through large InDesign documents too.
